Virginia (28-8, 11-5) won the first game tonight 4-2 over the visiting Hokies at Davenport Field in Charlottesville. Starting pitcher Danny Hultzen threw 7 strong innings as he struck out 10 Hokies.
Virginia Tech’s Ben Rowen was the losing pitcher, as he gave up two runs while he faced only eight batters in relief of starting pitcher Justin Wright. The Hokies also had two errors on the evening.
Virginia’s 4-5-6 batters (Proscia, Grovatt, Hicks) each drove in one run. The Hoos scored two runs in the bottom of the eighth inning to get the win.
The Hoos and Hokies play again tomorrow afternoon at 4 p.m. Saturday’s game is sold out. Go Hoos!
