Hoos Dismantle Eagles 48-21 at Scott Stadium

It wasn’t often pretty, but Virginia beat Eastern Michigan 48-21 Saturday evening at Scott Stadium in front of a tiny crowd of only 37,386 fans. Marc Verica threw for 203 yards and two touchdowns, and more importantly, no interceptions. Keith Payne rushed for 69 yards on 13 carries and two TD’s.

Virginia’s Matt Snyder continued his fine play of late, as he was the Wahoos’ leading receiver with 68 yards on 6 catches.

Eastern Michigan’s tailback Javonti Green gained 155 yards on just 8 attempts as he found the end zone twice. EMU’s quarterback Alex Gillett rushed for 86 yards on 13 carries and a score, yet he hardly threw the ball with just 12 attempts. The Eagles ran all over Virginia’s defense gaining nearly 300 yards on the ground.

Virginia’s punter Jimmy Howell threw a nifty TD pass to Trey Womack on a fake punt. Terence Fells-Danzer, Trey Womack, and Paul Freedman all scored the first touchdown of their careers Saturday night.

The victory was their first win of the season over a team from the Football Bowl Subdivision in 2010. The other two wins came at the hands of FCS members Richmond and VMI.

The 3-4 Wahoos welcome the 5-2 Miami Hurricanes to Charlottesville Saturday in the last game of their three-game home-stand. Miami just pounded UNC Saturday 33-10. Go Hoos!
