On April 18, a collection of roughly 700 independently owned record stores (including our own Plan 9 Music) will host everything from live gigs and special sales to exclusive releases, all to celebrate (read: “stimulate”) buying from your local music sources. And while longtime Downtown music shop Sidetracks isn’t named on the official list, owner Cal Glattfelder has his own celebration planned.
In honor of Sidetracks’ sixth year of business, the shop will present The Gourds’ April 4 gig at Gravity Lounge. Way to go, ’tracks!
Leave your well-wishes and Sidetracks stories here to honor our local record store. I’ll say this: I manage to sneak away from my desk once every week to browse through what I feel is the best used CD selection in the city. (Most recent purchases: Smog’s Knock Knock and Ghostface Killah’s Supreme Clientele, for a combined total of $14 plus tax.)
And remember, music piracy inhibits local record stores the same way it inhibits local bands. Beware the pirates:
You can’t spell "records" without an "argh." (How does a person get away with writing puns like that?)
