An Earlysville man known as one of the neo-Nazi movement’s prominent leaders has been indicted for soliciting sex from a minor, in addition to several counts of child pornography and obstruction of justice. Federal prosecutors allege that Kevin Alfred Strom, 50, used the Internet to try to persuade a 10-year-old girl to engage in sexual acts.

The indictment handed down this month adds the child-solicitation charge to a January 2007 indictment, which indicated that Strom downloaded child pornography and physically assaulted and intimidated a witness. On his personal website, www.kevin-strom.com, Strom waxed about the beauty of white women and girls and at one point featured semi-pornographic pictures.
The Southern Poverty Law Center, which tracks hate groups through its Intelligence Project, characterizes Strom as “a major American neo-Nazi leader for almost 20 years.” As of earlier this year, Strom’s organization, National Vanguard, maintained chapters in over a dozen states. Its website, www.nationalvanguard.org, now claims the organization has been shut down by the Commonwealth of Virginia. In January, other neo-Nazis decried Strom’s indictment as a conspiracy to take him down for his racist views.
A hearing date has been set for April 12.
