Amidst UVA’s $3 billion capital campaign (www.virginia.edu.uvacampaign) —$1.08 billion raised as of November 30 —some areas of the University stand to gain more than others. The biggest beneficiaries could include the Health System (well on its way to raise $500 million), Arts & Sciences (shooting for another $500 million) and the athletics program (hoping for $300 million).

Other academic departments have smaller goals. The business, law, commerce and engineering schools each have goals of $150 million; so far, law is closest to that sum, with $57 million raised so far, or about 38 percent of its goal.
And, though the UVA Fund/Alumni Association cash flow seems paltry on this mega-scale, at $27.6 million raised, it’s actually at 212 percent of its goal of $13 million. Let’s hear it for alumni loyalty.
Other funds were too teensy even to make it on our chart. The Women’s Center, with a goal of $10 million, has only raised $373,503 so far.
