From the soap box

With the local elections less than a week away, C-VILLE asked candidates to speak directly to readers.

GO TO:

Charlottesville City Council

Albemarle Board of Supervisors

Charlottesville City Sheriff

Charlottesville School Board

Albemarle School Board

57th and 58th District in the House of Delegates

We gave every candidate in each race a question to answer with the promise to publish their answers verbatim.

For each race, the C-VILLE editorial team crafted a question that, in our view, needs attention.

For City Council candidates, we highlighted poverty.

We asked Board of Supervisors candidates what they propose in order to protect rapidly diminishing rural land.

Recent budget cuts have left the Sheriff’s Office in need of prioritizing programs. We asked the City Sheriff candidates exactly what they will put on the top of their list.

Budget cuts aside, city and county high schools are confronted with a high dropout rate. Candidates for both localities were asked to weigh in with possible solutions to lower the rate.

Finally, the number of inmates in Virginia prisons is rising, and with it, the number of broken families. We asked candidates representing the 57th and 58th District in the House of Delegates to assess what changes to the legislature could be made to ultimately curb this phenomenon.

Polls open at 6am on November 3rd and remain open until 7pm. Check c-ville.com all day for election updates.
