This morning, former Albemarle County School Board candidate Ned Gallaway announced his intention to run for the board’s at-large seat. The at-large seat is currently held by Harley Miles, who was selected among several contenders after Brian Wheeler announced his resignation in August of last year.
In 2009, Gallaway ran for the board’s Rio District seat as an Independent but lost to incumbent Pamela Moynihan, who received 56 percent of the votes. In a press release, Gallaway says that he decided to run because “of a strong belief that Albemarle County schools ‘must prepare our children for their future,’” and to “help the Board meet its responsibility in providing a world class education” to county students.
Gallaway is a former teacher at Shaker Heights High School in Shaker Heights, Ohio, and is pursuing his doctorate degree University of Virginia’s Curry School of Education. He will formally announce his candidacy tomorrow, March 22, at 3:30pm at Agnor-Hurt Elementary School, where the eldest of his three children is a third-grade student.
