February 2009: Comfort To Go

Lauren Perpetua

Age: 25
Occupation: Marketing Manager at Panera Bread

Between work and pleasure travel, “I’m constantly either in my car or staying in hotels,” says Lauren Perpetua. Her job has her shuttling back and forth to Memphis as well as a string of Virginia towns, and she and her husband travel for fun, too: “Our whole thing was to get married kind of young and spend time traveling before starting a family,” she explains. It doesn’t hurt that work travel earns her frequent flier miles and hotel points.

Both skiers, they recently went to Deep Creek, Maryland, and are planning a trip to Snowshoe, plus a March weekend in New Orleans. And they have an even bigger trip in mind: “We’d love to go to Napa for our first-year anniversary…” Lauren says.

Philosophy Face Wash Exfoliant
“I recently got turned onto this by my sister,” Lauren says. “I love to exfoliate especially after plane travel,” which either “dries you out or gets you oily.”

Redkin All Soft Shampoo and Conditioner

Lauren’s hairdresser turned her on to these products. “I really have dry hair, and that tends to get worse traveling in the winter,” she says. “This makes your hair more manageable, and it smells nice.”

Bare Minerals Warmth
“I am obsessed with Bare Minerals,” Lauren declares. This product “gives you an extra glow without being orange; also, you can wear it to bed. It doesn’t look like you have caked-on makeup.”

Avon Anew face cream
“My mom is really into Avon,” Lauren says. “She gave me this face cream for Christmas and it moisturizes well but doesn’t clog your pores.”

Go Smile touch ups
These portable teeth whiteners help counteract stains from coffee and red wine, both of which Lauren loves. “You throw a couple in your purse,” she says. “They’re minty but not overpowering.”

Cascadian Farm bars
“I always get hungry in a hotel room,” says Lauren, who admits it’s tough to eat healthy on the road. “I love Cascadian Farm bars for late night cravings, and I’m one of those people who’s got to eat first thing in the morning.”

Jodi Picoult books

Lauren says she’s been into this author for a couple of years and loves how well researched her novels are. “Once you start reading you can’t put her down,” she says. “I plan each one of my trips around a new book.”

Emergen-C

“I find traveling breaks down your immune system, and Emergen-C helps to keep up your defenses,” Lauren says. “It also gives you a burst of energy!”

Mari Winsor Pilates DVD
On car trips, Lauren takes along her Pilates chair and this accompanying 35-minute DVD. “I’m a nighttime exerciser,” she says—she’ll work out at the end of a long day. “When you’re in a hotel room it’s easy to get lonely and out of shape.”
