Election Night Update: City Dems take Council

Thanking supporters and campaign workers, Mayor Dave Norris and running mate Kristin Szakos celebrated their victory in the Charlottesville City Council race among 80 or so loyal supporters at Siips. "I’m happy to bring some joy to Mudville today," said Szakos, referring to the losses Democrats took in Albemarle County and statewide races.

Asked how City-County governmental relations will change now that Duane Snow and Rodney Thomas have earned seats on the Albemarle Board of Supervisors, with Thomas unseating Democratic incumbent David Slutzky and Snow winning the open seat in the Samuel Miller District, Norris said "it will be a much different dynamic."

"We had great partner in [former Supes] Sally Thomas and David Slutzky, who had a view of city-county cooperation that has benefitted all of our residents.

"I am disappointed personally that David Slutzky has lost," the Mayor continued, "because he’s become a good partner for us in the city. He knows we get a lot more done by not being at each others’ throats," Norris said, citing transportation, environment and social issues.

"I hope Mr. Thomas and Mr. Snow follow in his footsteps."
