Dropout rate triples among black students in Albemarle

According to new data from the Virginia Department of Education, the dropout rate among black students in Albemarle County tripled this year to 15.2 percent.

The Daily Progress reports that the previous year’s number was 5.4 percent of students who entered high school in 2004.

In the county as a whole, the dropout rate is 5.8 percent.

For Charlottesville, the dropout rate for black students was 14 percent, still higher than the rate for all students, which is 11.1 percent.
