DJ AM to spin for Jay-Z at JPJ

I think this is the sort of hip-hop event that you can technically call a "comeback": Only a month after surviving a plane crash that killed nearly every passenger on board, Adam "DJ AM" Goldstein will perform as part of Jay-Z’s upcoming concert at John Paul Jones Arena. The JPJ gig is the only major concert gig currently on AM’s schedule, following comeback appearances with Jay-Z in Houston and Hollywood, the latter to reopen the Palladium Theater; he’s also scheduled to resume spinning at Pure nightclub in Las Vegas, for those of you interested in a Vince Vaughn, Swingers-ish weekend of debauchery.

While Goldstein may not be the disc jockey best suited to jockin’ for Jay-Z, he’s been a busy man of late, particularly in his work with former Blink-182 drummer Travis Barker. The pair recently released a free mixtape of scratchin’-and-skins club tracks and were the house band for the recent MTV Video Music Awards. (Barker was the sole passenger besides AM to survive the plane crash, in fact. Download the mixtape here.) And, who knows—AM’s gig with Jeezy could be a breeze-y, if Passion of the Weissreview of the Hollywood Palladium gig is any indication.

Barker is still in the hospital, but blogging about his progress here. A shame that Travis couldn’t join Jay-Z’s band for the tour; I met him when Blink-182 and Green Day performed at the MCI Center in D.C. years ago. Let me say this about the fellow: He’s as talented a drummer as the other two guys from Blink were funny.
