Mornin’ brickpeople. Brick Watch went for a stroll on the Downtown Mall last night. The air was cozy and warm, daffodils were blooming, and there were happy diners eating their meals out on the bricks. Wait, what? Diners out ON the bricks?! Yes folks, a few restaurants had some seating out on the Mall last night taking advantage of the fair weather. Siips, Rapture, and Bizou were among the lucky restaurants with seating on the walkways in front of their respective store fronts.
From yesterday’s bout of warm weather bloomed tables and chairs at some Downtown restaurants.
As life returns—little by little—to normal around the Mall, there is still some strangeness for we brickmeisters to report on. Demolition crews working on de-bricking the Third Street walkways, came upon a "mystery manhole."
"No one knew it was there," said 300 east Block Captain Mary DeViney. "Now they can run the water pipes through there." BW wishes we found little helpful things while cleaning off our desk…ooooh! A jelly bean!
Elsewhere around the Mall, construction is moving right along. The rebricking on the 400 east block is almost complete (crews are working on the south side and filling in holes around the trees), the demolition at the Third Street interchange is drawing to a close, and rebricking at the 200 east block (around the Paramount) is also wrapping up.
Bend from the hips!: A crew member "completes" the 400 block (finally!).
The now-infamous Downtown Dust made an appearance on the Mall again this morning, as crews cut bricks to size around trees.
