Winter hibernation is in full swing, and it appears that fact is not lost on construction crews Downtown. The question in most Charlottesville-area middle school science classrooms is this: "Where does the Downtown Mall construction worker (particularly the subspecies mason) hibernate?"
Well little brickies, that is a fantastic question. One, in fact, that Brick Watch finds ourselves asking, er, ourselves, this frigid morning. Now, BW loves to stay wrapped in our blanket-like products (and wrapt in our soaps) in these refrigerated climes as much as anyone, but there is a serious dearth of construction workers—and by extension, progress—on our Downtown Mall.
"Brick production has been slower than we thought," says Barton Malow Project Manager Chris Weatherford. Weatherford said they received 75,000 bricks this week, and that they will lay them down as soon as possible.
Naturally, BW is a bit suspicious. The construction area in front of C-VILLE’s office (the 300 east block) hasn’t changed in over a week. In fact, neither has much of the 500, 200 or 100 east blocks.
Even the 400 east block, which is now celebrating its "completion," still has demo and rebricking to do on the southern side.
This big white ball will help you find the 400 block when you head out tonight, ready to get down.
In semi-related news, the staff of Union Bank, in the Chicago spirit, are in fact wearing their "old tyme" green banking visors, and we are jealous.
What? No dice?
Have a good weekend, brickfans. And don’t forget to visit Enoteca tonight for a Chicago-themed speakeasy party!
