Dave Matthews Band announces gigs at JPJ!

More than two years since its last local concert, Dave Matthews Band announced today that it will perform on consecutive nights—April 17 and 18—at the John Paul Jones Arena. Tickets will go on sale to the public on January 17 at 10am, but will be available to members of Warehouse, the longtime Dave Matthews Band fan site, between December 15 and January 4.

But there’s still so much to say, Dave ravers! On April 14, DMB will release a new, full-length studio album; the official DMB site claims that "fans will be treated to the group’s first-ever live performances of songs from the new yet-to-be titled album." More after the photo.

Dave Matthews Band decides to stay, stay, stay for a while, with back-to-back gigs at John Paul Jones Arena.

The shows will be produced by Starr Hill Presents, the live music promotion arm of DMB manager Coran Capshaw’s music empire, as well as national production agency Live Nation. Bluegrass resurrectionists Old Crow Medicine Show will open both gigs. The DMB lineup will include saxophonist Jeff Coffin, who replaced Leroi Moore following Moore’s death earlier this year, along with trumpeter Rashawn Ross and longtime Matthews friend Tim Reynolds on guitar.

Hours before tour dates were announced, a message board titled "***Official Spring 2009 Charlottesville Thread***" opened on DMB fan site AntsMarching.org. Fans speculated over venues, from including Scott Stadium and the Hampton Coliseum, then began to announce their arrangements once the dates were published.

"Anybody have suggestions for a nice place to stay near JPJ?" one commenter asked. "I’m looking at making a roadtrip from Cincy." "Just booked 2 nights at the Fairfield in preparation. $129 a night," added another out-of-town commenter.

Let’s hear from the locals that know DMB best. What night will you hit? How will you celebrate? What’s the setlist going to look like? What would you say?
