Cuccinelli pressured to return $55,000 in campaign contributions

Virginia Attorney General Ken Cuccinelli has his mind on his money, and his money on his mind. (And, no, we’re not just talking about his investigation into grant documents for Michael Mann’s climate research.)

In the wake of the St. Petersburg Times’ ongoing investigation of the U.S. Navy Veterans Association, Cuccinelli is being pressured to return $55,000 in donations from the association’s former director, Bobby Thompson. (A PDF file of Thompson’s contributions is available here.) The Washington Post reports today that Democratic state senator Patricia Ticer, sponsor of a bill that exempts organizations like veterans groups from registering with the state’s office of consumer affairs, tried to halt her bill before Governor McDonnell signed it into law, but was a bit too late.

What do you think? Should Cuccinelli return the $55,000?
