City Councilor Holly Edwards announced this morning that she will not seek a second term on City Council, reports the Newsplex.
Edwards, a Democrat and current vice-mayor, is the second member of Council who has decided not to run for re-election. Fellow Councilor David Brown told C-VILLE in January that he thought eight years were enough. Brown also served as mayor from 2004 to 2006.
Edwards, born and raised in Washington D.C., has served as the Program Coordinator for the Public Housing Association of Residents (PHAR). She has voted against the sale of two parcels of city land to Southern Development in what will become the William Taylor Plaza and has opposed the project itself. “I did oppose the selling of the city land for this development, and I continue to oppose it,” she said in 2009.
Edwards has also opposed the Meadowcreek Parkway in McIntire Park since the beginning of the debate.
Councilor Satyendra Huja is also up for re-election, but has yet to make his decision public. With two of the three seats now open, the November elections may take an interesting turn.
