City mayor advocates for changes to water supply plan

According to Charlottesville Tomorrow, Charlottesville Mayor Dave Norris proposed a new water supply plan at the monthly Democratic breakfast on Saturday.

The key piece of his water supply plan revolves around raising the height of the existing dam at the Ragged Mountain Reservoir by 13 feet, rather than building a new dam that is 45 feet taller. Norris claims that through water conservation and dredging of the South Fork Rivanna Reservoir, that could still meet the water needs of Charlottesville and urban Albemarle for the next 50 years.

Apparently, the meeting got pretty hot. After a back-and-forth exchange between water supply plan critic (and former city councilor) Kevin Lynch and water supply plan defenders Liz Palmer and David Slutzky, city Democrat Lloyd Snook couldn’t take it any more, according to Charlottesville Tomorrow.

“I don’t know what the hell you all are talking about,” said Snook. “You are arguing back and forth, using terms that the rest of us don’t know and don’t understand, and for those of us that were hoping to have some enlightenment, what we have is heat and not light.”
