At the end of April, a delegation of city officials, city schools officials and Charlottesville residents will travel to Winneba, Ghana to explore a possible exchange program between the African city and our own.
A city of 80,000, Winneba is a sister city hopeful, and if chosen, will join Besancon, France, Pleven, Bulgaria and Poggio a Caiano, Italy.
Mayor Dave Norris writes on his blog that although the delegation includes elected officials, the trip will be entirely paid for by private donations.
Some members of the delegation include Norris, City Councilor Holly Edward, city schools Superintendent Rosa Atkins and UVA VP for Diversty and Equity Bill Harvey.
Quintin Franklyn, a teenage resident of public housing, will film the trip for a Light House documentary. Nana Ghartey, a Winneba native currently living in Charlottesville, is also going on the trip.
