At tonight’s meeting, City Council will take an important step toward the resolution of the much-debated issue of the 50-year water supply plan.
Members of Council will vote, after a public hearing, on whether to keep the adopted plan or make changes to it. Over the weekend, Mayor Dave Norris took to his blog to recommend quick action on two contested components of the area’s water infrastructure: repair the spillway at the Ragged Mountain Dam while adding 13′ to the existing dam structure, and dredge the South Fork Rivanna Reservoir.
"Frankly, we should have been dredging the reservoir all along," wrote Norris. The group Citizens for a Sustainable Water Plan also favors dredging South Fork as opposed to building a new dam.
City Council meets tonight at 7pm in the City Council Chambers. On Tuesday, council will join the Albemarle County Board of Supervisors, the Rivanna Water and Sewer Authority Board of Directors and the Albemarle County Service Authority Board of Directors for a joint discussion of the water supply plan.
