What are you working on currently?
Invisible Hand is in the process of finishing a full-length album at White Star Studios in Louisa. Another project of mine, Great Dads, is focusing on total catharsis.

What were you doing just before we contacted you?
Right now I’m in Texas at a conference called “Rethinking Education.” My official title is “Musical Maestro” and my duties are to facilitate acoustic jam sessions with the kids. So far it has been great, but I wish I had a really loud amplifier here to make some noise and wail.
What’s your day job?
I work at the C&O Restaurant, waiting tables with a tie on.
Do you have an iPhone? Any killer apps?
I’m really into The New York Times crossword puzzle app. It’s not exactly killer or mind-blowing—in fact, maybe it’s a little dorky and mundane.
Favorite tool of the trade?
I really like my guitar. I’m thinking about getting a nasty, lime green pickguard to make it appear super gross. It’s already aquamarine, so just imagine green on green! Fellow Hand member Jon Bray has the MXR Carbon Copy analog delay pedal and every chance I get I steal it from him.
Locally, who would you like to collaborate with that you haven’t yet?
I pretty much feel like I am working with everybody I’d like to right now.
Plans to perform locally soon?
Invisible hand’s next show will be at the Outback Lodge on October 28 with the Vivian Girls and our good friends the Super Vacations.
What’s inspiring about Charlottesville right now?

Tell us about an idea you’re carrying around with you.
Well, for a while the band has been toying around with the idea of a comedy hour variety show, including short skits, musical guests and someone to host the entire thing. It is merely thoughts at this point, but some of the ideas are cooking for one, and “I’m A Smurf,” sung to the tune of R. Kelly’s “I’m A Flirt”.
Favorite snack food while you’re creating or performing?
Jameson on the rocks.
What upcoming event will you be getting a ticket for?
Any show that Jacob “Holy Smokes” Wolf books. That guy is ahead of Pitchfork.
What music have you been listening to lately?
My friend Rich turned me on to Henry’s Dress recently. The Incredible String Band is great. Um…the Wipers, Suicide, My Mind.
If you could only bring a single article of clothing with you on tour for a month, it would be…
My 15′ wool scarf.
What item(s) do you carry with you at all times?
My wits and my guns.
Guilty pleasure?
Eighties fantasy movies like Krull, Legend, and The Dark Crystal. Really anything with bad animation and horrible acting but with a magical twist!
Favorite artist in your genre or medium? What about outside your genre/medium?
Oh man, how specific am I supposed to be? The Kinks? David Bowie? Thomas Dean? Outside my genre…would have to be Fela Kuti or perhaps Camus? No, no…Chuck Close?
