Whoever said "money ain’t a thing" should take a look at this piece from Forbes, which names Charlottesville one of "America’s Millionaire Capitals." Using income tax filing data, Forbes listed communities according to residents with more than $200,000 in annual income who also have millionaire neighbors. (The methodology is here, but mentions that data is circa 2008 returns.) Charlottesville lands at No. 14 on the Forbes list. Screenshots below via Forbes.
For Charlottesville residents whose adjusted gross income totals more than $200,000, the average filing is $16.7 million. It should also be noted that Forbes lists Charlottesville on its "Generous Towns" list, where residents put 5.2 percent of adjusted gross income to charitable donations.
A hat-tip to Waldo Jaquith on this one.
