Breaking and surrendering

The smash-and-grab job at Union Bank and Trust on Friday, June 1, came courtesy of members of the city police department. At roughly 9am, a city employee called the city police after watching 38-year-old Jeffrey Alan Adams (below)—a resident of Fredericksburg—enter the bank and lock it from the inside (“They have a deadbolt situation,” explained city spokesman Ric Barrick). When the first officer arrived on the scene, Adams had forced bank employees into a strategic location; an anonymous police source confirmed that the alleged robber was carrying a gun. When backup arrived, officers broke through the glass front of the bank and apprehended Adams, who “complied with all direction,” according to Barrick. An alleged accomplice, John Joseph Amann, was arrested in Fredericksburg over the weekend.
