Boyd to chair Western Bypass task force

Ken Boyd, the Republican supervisor for Albemarle County’s Rivanna District, will announce the members of a Western Bypass task force tomorrow morning. Appointees will work with state Department of Transportation engineers to design the once-dormant bypass‘ northern terminus. The task force will be headed be Boyd, who faces Democratic candidate Cynthia Neff in a November election.

Boyd’s position on the board pits him against Neff on an issue that decided a 1994 supervisors race for Democrat Sally Thomas, who opposed the road and ultimately represented the Samuel Miller District for 15 years. Neff told C-VILLE that the road project is a "connector" rather than a bypass. At the end of July, the Commonwealth Transportation Board voted to support local transportation projects along with earmarking $230 million for the road.
