The American Shakespeare Center is offering discounted tickets to its shows over Valentine’s Day weekend. Now it’s $10 a show. Tickets can otherwise run to $40 there. They’re currently showing Shakespeare’s Twelfth Night, Marlowe’s Doctor Faustus and Ben Jonson’s The Alchemist, which C-VILLE’s Cris Edwards praised in a review last week.
Apparently, the tough run of weather made it a slow season for Staunton. The press release reads, "In an economy already hard hit by the recession, downtown businesses in Staunton have reported decreased sales since December due to loss of customers during the worst winter weather the area has seen in more than a decade." And in spite of it all, the theater hasn’t cancelled a single show.
