AP names Charlottesville one of the 12 best college football towns

The Associated Press recently named Charlottesville one of the best college football towns. Criteria for the ranking included a good nightlife, green space and activities for those who don’t necessarily want to paint their faces orange and blue.

Athens, Georgia, finished in first place, and earned props for its rich music scene (hometown of R.E.M. and B-52s) and its bike friendly ways. Austin, Texas—also known as “the home of Lance Armstrong and the struggling Longhorns"—came in second, and Eugene, Oregon, finished third.

Charlottesville, the only Virginia city that made the list, ranked 11th, thanks to the proximity of Monticello and bonus points for a few founding fathers. Chapel Hill, home of the University of North Carolina Tar Heels (who make their way to Charlottesville this weekend) finished in 6th place.
