Less than a minute after I pulled into the parking lot at Alumni Hall to cast my vote this morning, a woman in a blue Cadillac sedan attempted to park between my red Isuzu Rodeo and a blue SUV. In what I can only describe as a committed decision to "go blue," she steered clear of my red vehicle and scraped her Cadillac along the side of the blue SUV.
From what I heard from Neeral Shah, brother-in-law of Democratic congressional candidate Tom Perriello, it sounded like the toughest scrape faced at Alumni Hall so far.
"At about 6am, we had a line out to where your car was," said Shah. But at 11:45am, there was no line in sight, and no Goode campaigners—just a half-dozen Perriello campaigners and a dog in a Perriello t-shirt, also sporting an Obama bumper sticker.
Neeral Shah: Barking up a storm for brother-in-law Tom Perriello at Alumni Hall.
I asked whether any voters received automated messages about changes in their voting precincts—this morning, the Daily Progress warned of automated calls spreading disinformation to voters and advised those in doubt to call the State Board of Elections. According to Shah, no one at the Alumni Hall precinct mentioned receiving such a call.
"We had a couple of students who were supposed to vote at the Miller Center," said one volunteer.
"We had people drive them there," Shah continued.
According to Shah, Periello’s campaign team has upwards of 100 people covering the district, with at least one person at each poll. The candidate himself is keeping just as busy.
"He’s actually hitting 22 precincts today," said Shah. "A scheduled stop at every three minutes."
Meanwhile, Shah’s wife, Paige Perriello, is with the Democratic candidate’s mother, Linda, in Southside, Virginia. According to Shah, Linda Perriello has become a "legend" there.
"She visits every week," said Shah.
