Albemarle Supervisors to advertise tax hike for public hearing

One of the biggest political surprises so far this year involves County Board of Supervisors Chairman David Slutzky. After having argued in favor of a tax hike for Albemarle, last night, during the Board meeting, Slutzky reversed his thinking.

The Daily Progress reports that the Board decided to advertise a tax rate hike, to 74.2 cents per $100 of assessed value, for public hearing. The current rate is 71 cents.

According to the article, after hearing complaints from his constituents about the tough times, Slutzky told reporters he could not support the hike in “good conscience.”

The Board decided not to include an additional 2.5 cents that would have been put aside for the rainy day fund.
