Albemarle County urges residents to stay put

The County is  "issuing another plea for four wheel drive vehicles to help with transporting stranded motorists and emergency and healthcare workers," according to a news release from Albemarle spokeswoman Lee Catlin. Those willing to volunteer should call (434)979-INFO.

Additionally, while primary county roads are passable, secondary roads remain impassable in the County and even treacherous in some areas. The National Guard has had to respond in cases where people have medical emergencies but cannot get out. Route 29 South is a particular mess, with cars getting stuck and people being removed from vehicles.

Meanwhile, about 45 people are still sheltered at UVA Aquatics and Fitness Center, which opened Friday night for stranded travelers, and about 50 people are being housed at the North Garden Fire Department.
