Alanis Morissette: You oughta go.

The following is a list of the things I immediately thought of when a coworker simply mentioned the name "Alanis Morissette":

1. "Uncle Joey."

2. "Nickelodeon."

3. "Belief in a higher power?"

4. "Jimmy the Cab Driver." (I guarantee you, this will play on a loop for my colleagues’ amusement for the rest of the day. Try it in your workplace.)

Yet her music just didn’t occur to me. Not counting her cover of "My Humps," I can’t name a single song that Morissette has released since "Thank U," and that was eight years ago. Considering that 1995’s Jagged Little Pill sold between 30 and 185 million copies worldwide, I feel a bit like I must be missing something. (And that Red Light Management must know something that I don’t; a singer can’t be signed on lovely lady lumps alone, can she?)

But I want to give Alanis’ tunes a second chance, and I’d like to give you the same opportunity. So, I’m going to give two free tickets to Alanis Morissette’s gig at the Charlottesville Pavilion tomorrow night to the first person who can tell me what their favorite Alanis record besides JLP is, and why.

And, for those of you who don’t nab the tickets and need a little pick-me-up, here’s a consolation prize that you can all enjoy.

How well do you know your Alanis Morissette? Let us know and grab two free tickets to her concert tomorrow at the Charlottesville Pavilion.
