AHS student killed in car accident

Sixteen-year-old Albemarle High School student Sydney Aichs was killed this morning when a tractor trailer collided with her 1999 Chevy Cavalier. The accident took place on Route 29 North near Ashwood Boulevard, an intersection just north of Polo Grounds Road.

According to a press release, Aichs was making a left turn to head south on Route 29 when the tractor trailer, piloted by 54-year-old Kenneth Barbour, struck her car. Aichs died at the scene of the accident, which is currently under investigation by the Albemarle County Police Department. Charges are pending against Barbour.
