Albemarle County Police Chief Sean Reeves, who’s been on medical leave since May 8, will retire October 1. He will remain on leave until his official exit, and Deputy Chief Randy Jamerson will take over as acting chief August 14, replacing Deputy Chief Camille Stewart.
“Serving as your Chief of Police for the past four and a half years has been the greatest honor of my professional life,” shared Reeves in an August 6 social media post. “I leave this department confident in its future. ACPD is strong, capable, resilient, and committed to the mission of protecting and serving with honor. The foundation we have built together will continue to carry this department forward for years to come.”
Reeves’ exit is reportedly unrelated to morale issues, documented in an internal survey, at ACPD.

The votes are (unofficially) in for Virginia’s August 4 primaries. Tom Perriello is the Democratic nominee in the VA-5 contest with 79.66 percent of the vote, and will face incumbent Republican John McGuire on Election Day. Bert Mizusawa garnered the Republican Senate nomination to challenge longtime Sen. Mark Warner in November.
Based on data gathered from the Virginia Department of Elections site at noon on August 10, the city and county both saw 11 percent voter turnout for the Democratic primary. Republican primary participation was notably lower, at 4 percent in Albemarle County and 1 percent in Charlottesville.
Election Day is November 3.
