This gorgeous facility at 1 Boar’s Head Pointe, assessed at $5.2 million, is the headquarters of Amvest Corporation, an energy empire primarily focused on West Virginia coal. Amvest, a private company, will be acquired for $335 million by Pennslyvania-based CONSOL Energy Inc, which had $3.7 billion in revenues in 2006. Amvest had no comment about what would happen to the Charlottesville facility, and calls to CONSOL weren’t returned. Amvest was founded in 1961 by Craig Smith, a dedicated UVA alum who donated $23 million for Scott Stadium renovations. Smith died in 2005 at age 78. The Chamber of Commerce issued a press release following the announcement of the sale, thanking the Smith family for “the beautiful corporate facilities in Albemarle County” that will “remain in place and become available to either emerging area enterprises or new enterprises interested in putting down roots in our area.”
