The bodies of the two victims of Friday’s fatal plane crash in Albemarle have been identified by Virginia State Police.
The Daily Progess reports that Orange County residents Thomas John Mahoney, 47, and Elizabeth Marie Paris, 50, died when their small-engine plane crashed in a wooded area near Route 20. At the time, Mahoney was piloting the plane. According to Saturday’s Daily Progress, the crash was reported by Lynchburg air-traffic controllers on Friday evening.
“They lost it on radar after three mayday calls,” said state police Sgt. David A. Brown. A resident close to the crash site called 911 after seeing a flash followed by a crash.
This crash is the third in Albemarle since 2006.
As C-VILLE previously reported, in June 2006 Qroe Companies CEO Robert Baldwin and Regional Director David Brown died when their single-engine, six-seater Beechcraft plane crashed while preparing to land at a private landing strip on the property just south of Charlottesville.
