Small Bites: This week's restaurant news

 Countdown to fresh produce
Despite the mild winter, we’ve still been bound to our pantries and freezers for meals all season. Thankfully, the City Market revs up this Saturday at 7am and is better than ever with three dozen vendors—from old favorites (there will be doughnuts) to fresh new faces —and because of the early spring, expect to see more green stuff on offer than usual this time of year. It’s another month before the Pen Park and Meade Park markets open on Tuesdays and Wednesday afternoons respectively, so you’ll want to bring a big basket.

Dinner on the rocks
Drink your dinner and eat it too, Wednesday, April 11 at 6pm at Commonwealth Restaurant & Skybar’s five-course bourbon dinner. You’ll start with Corner Creek Reserve 88 proof paired with a spicy alligator bisque and work your way up to Black Maple Hill’s eight-year, 95 proof, paired with seared ostrich medallions, savoy cabbage, and creole gravy. The $58 per person cost excludes tax and gratuity.

Edible points
Everything’s gone digital, including the coupons and punch cards of yore. More than 30 food and drink establishments in town are rewarding loyal patrons by way of a free digital app called Cardagin, which keeps track of your dollars spent and regularly announces new deals and offerings. At Calvino Café, for example, get one of its famous chocolate chunk cookies for every 10 points earned or a $25 gift certificate to Orzo for every 100 points earned. At Downtown Thai, 50 points wins you a free appetizer. Talk about a smart phone.
