Small Bites: This week's restaurant news

Fun for the whole fam damily
Kids and beer don’t usually mix, but when Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows is playing at Blue Mountain Brewery, it does just fine. Every Tuesday is Brew & View night at BMB and December 6 from 6-9pm is kids’ night. Movie tickets are $7 (100 percent of proceeds benefit the Blue Ridge Medical Rural Health Outreach Program) and a full menu is available. If you’re without child, go December 13 at 7pm to see The Last Mountain or on the 20th for A Christmas Story. E-mail events@bluemountainbrewery.com or call (540) 456-8020 to save your seats.

Escafé’s replacement
The new lessee for the spot where Escafé now stands has a name and it’s a familiar one. Will Richey, owner of Revolutionary Soup and a Wine Guild of Charlottesville member, has applied for an alcohol license for the space under the trade name: The Whiskey Jar. We likey.

Give the gift of date night
The Hospice of the Piedmont’s annual dining book makes a great gift for the restaurant- and theater-lover in your life. With an estimated value of $1,000 to be redeemed at 50 participating restaurants and eight live theaters within a year, the booklet’s $50 cost is a deal, and a charitable one to boot. The entirety of your purchase goes to this local nonprofit community organization providing specialized care to terminally ill patients and their families in Charlottesville, Albemarle County, and nine surrounding counties. Visit hopva.org to order online or call 817-6900.

Your new sammy spot
The Farm Cville has been supplying those coming to and from Belmont with their coffee, pastry, beer, wine, and groceries since late summer. Now the li’l gourmet market’s added baguette sammies “du jour” to the mix. Try the breakfast panino with Rosa ham, Dubliner Irish cheddar, and spicy Virginia peach chutney for $2.95, or a Bambino (or two) with fresh mozzarella, roasted red tomatoes, local greens, and olive oil for $3.50.
