Sure, Charlottesville has one of the nation’s lowest unemployment rates at 3.4 percent, but that doesn’t mean we’re immune to the pox that is the worldwide economy. For one thing, the Virginia Employment Commission reports that locally 1,000 net non-farm jobs have been lost in the past year. Fortunately, we’ve got UVA to look to. In mid-December, some 185 openings were listed on the University’s job site. If you’ve got a warm spot for lab rats or you know how to hammer a nail, UVA might be the place to look. But act fast. Since July, round about the time former director Jill Hartz was canned, UVA posted this position: UVA Art Museum Director. And it’s still open! With more than 30,000 visitors annually and six to seven temporary exhibits per year, the Art Museum is a vital part of campus life.
