Job title: Animal Control Officer. Durrer keeps the city’s animal population, both wild and domestic, under control.
Has worked for the city for: 27 years
Resides in: Charlottesville
Best of times: Variety. “We deal with a lot of different things. It’s different from day to day. We see domestic animals a lot, but we also have deer and bears. It’s nice when you’ve been looking for one animal for a while, and you finally catch it.”
Worst of times: The need for the job. “We see a lot of injured animals, and domestics that haven’t been well cared for.”

Strangest moment on the job: “Last Wednesday, we finally caught this stray dog that we’ve been looking for. He was asleep in the middle of the road, and when we captured him, he was so nervous he pooped all over us.”
If he were a superhero he’d be: “On this job, you deal with a lot of aggressive animals and you need to be like a superhero
sometimes. Each situation is different. Sometimes you need to be The Hulk, sometimes Superman.”
