Say goodbye to Smith Pool

With a vote on May 19, City Council O.K.’d the decommissioning of Smith Pool, which is adjacent to Buford Middle School off Cherry Avenue. The utilitarian swimming lanes will be replaced by a new $10 million Smith Aquatic and Wellness Center, with six lap lanes in addition to a play zone at a maximum depth of 18", an 80′-long “lazy river” and a two-turn water slide. Small farmer Kathryn Russell says that the county should extend land use tax to smaller parcels. “You can do a whole lot on two acres,” she says.
