What’s at issue: Whether the city is responsible for the “severe, painful, and permanent” injuries the defendant suffered when she stepped into a “large depression in the sidewalk” on the east side of Second Street SW (between Water and Main streets) and fell forward. According to her complaint, the 88-year-old Gibson was walking with a cane on the way from her house on Ridge Street to have coffee and a light breakfast with friends on the Downtown Mall. “This is something [the] Plaintiff did on a regular basis and was the most important part of the day for her,” the complaint states.
What’s at stake: $1.5 million. In addition to her injuries and the money to cure them, plaintiff claims she “has been and will in the future be greatly inconvenienced.”
What’s the status: The complaint was filed and served on March 10.
