Worked for Albemarle County for: 3.5 years
Resides in: Albemarle County
Job title: Organizational development specialist. She started in community development enforcing zoning laws, and now she teaches classes through the Human Resources department. She doesn’t “teach the firemen how to put out fires or the cops how to shoot,” but she does get a view into a variety of jobs held by local government employees. She brings them all into the same room for training sessions in customer service and strategic thinking, among other things.
Best of times: “When people get that ‘aha’ moment. It’s very rewarding to see the moment people understand something they’ll be able to use later.”
Worst of times: “Training people who don’t want to be here.”
Strangest moments on the job: After an introduction, being recognized as “that lady who sends all the e-mails.”
If her job were done by a superhero, it’d be: “Gumby, or somebody really flexible. Or Inspector Gadget, because I’m always reaching out to people.”
