Senator Creigh Deeds and Delegate David Toscano will host a town hall meeting at the end of the month to discuss the recently concluded General Assembly session, what worked and what went wrong.
In 2011, both legislators introduced bicycle-related legislation that ultimately failed to pass the House Transportation subcommittee. Deeds introduced a bill that authorizes the state tax commissioner to call for a second land appraisal to determine fair market value of donated property; that bill passed the assembly and goes before Governor Bob McDonnell. Deeds introduced the bill after a second appraisal for the 1,200-acre Biscuit Run, requested by former developers Forest Lodge LLC, valued the property at $87.7 million—$48 million greater than the tax department’s appraisal.
Both Deeds and Toscano held similar gatherings in the past to offer constituents the opportunity to voice their concerns and requests. During the March 31 meeting, the pair will also discuss post-census redistricting, which the Washington Post reports could create a greater concentration of congressional districts in Northern Virginia.
