NBA veteran Manute Bol dies at UVA Hospital

Manute Bol, a 10-year veteran of the National Basketball Association and, at 7’6", one of the tallest men in league history, died on Saturday at the University of Virginia Medical Center. Bol, a native of Sudan, was hospitalized in May after experiencing kidney failure and contracting a skin condition called Stevens-Johnson Syndrome during a visit to his home country, where he was building a school and assisting in reconciliation efforts. The Washington Post writes that, when Bol first arrived in America from Sudan, he spoke no English. During his NBA career, Bol frequently amassed more than 200 blocked shots per season.
