Both UVA lacrosse teams learn their opponents for NCAA tournament

At the end of a difficult week for both UVA lacrosse teams, both squads learned yesterday their first-round opponents in the NCAA lacrosse tournament, scheduled to begin next weekend. The top-seeded men’s team will host Mount St. Mary’s at home in the first round of the tournament. The women’s team will face off against Towson at home in the first round.

In addition to the tragic death of fourth-year student and lacrosse player Yeardley Love, allegedly by the hands of fellow student-athlete George Huguely, the father of men’s head coach Dom Starsia died last week.

"It’s hard to put into words what this week has been like, tragic on so many different levels," he told the New York Times in one of his first comments since Love’s death. "I was glad to be able to at least consider the lacrosse piece of this again, both on the field dealing with the team and talking about lacrosse this evening."

Although Starsia would not comment on Huguely and the ongoing police investigation, he said, "I think both teams are in a great deal of pain and both teams are trying to sort this out the best they can."
