Last month, Halsey Minor told C-VILLE that his place atop the California Franchise Tax Board’s list of delinquent tax payers was proof of the general health of his finances.
"Given that no one generates taxes without making money, I would say this would lay to rest the argument that I am not doing well…" he said via e-mail. "I am not sure how many people have made $130 million over the last several years."
Well, he can certainly make good with the Golden State now. Last week, Christie’s Auction House was ordered to pay Minor more than $8 million in damages after the house was found guilty of fraud and breach of contract for holding pieces from Minor’s art collection until he settled his tab as a bidder.
What became of Minor’s collection at Christie’s? Well, a few works—including this piece by Richard Prince—went on to Phillips de Pury & Company, which recently auctioned a collection of work by contemporary New York artists. Minor’s collection sold for more than $21 million.
