Verga, Fifth District GOP challenger, “takes his lumps” from Tea Party

This morning, organizers of Tea Party Patriots groups in the Fifth Congressional District released an assessment of the seven candidates competing for the GOP nomination and a shot at the seat of Democratic Congressman Tom Perriello.

"The Lump Report" is available in its entirety here, and is, according to the Fifth District Tea Party leaders, "as fair and objective as we could make it."

"The intention of this evaluation is to clear up the rumors and claims being made by the media, candidates, and campaign staffers based on spin and political positioning," reads the report.

In this case, lumps are a good thing, doled out to rank campaigns based on their abilities to raise money and support, as well as how they reflect principles of the Tea Party. The candidate with the most lumps? Laurence Verga, an Albemarle County businessman who earned praise for raising financial support while contributing his own money to his campaign, and "for being actively involved in the Tea Party movement before declaring his run."

Verga responded via press release, writing, "I’ll take my lumps where I can get them." He added: "I look forward to working with the Tea Parties closely to address the concerns of the citizens of the 5th District." Read the rest of The Lump Report here.
