The Virginia men did not do much right on the court at the JPJ on Monday night, but somehow did just enough to escape with a two-point victory which was delivered by super-second-year Sylven Landesberg. Virginia improved their record to 12-4 and won their eighth straight game, which is their longest winning streak since 2003-2004.
UNCW came to town for the snow make-up game, and was actually up by four with 2:55 to play. The Seahawks went on a 17-2 run in the second half as Virginia committed 10 turnovers in the second stanza. UNCW shot an incredible 60 percent for the game, and was led by 17 points and 8 assists from Chad Tomko, and 19 points from Ahmad Grant. Grant hit 5 three-pointers in the second-half.
The game was the last non-conference foe Virginia will face this season. Sylven Landesberg led the Wahoos with 19 points, and everyone in the building knew that he would take the last shot of the game for Virginia. The game winner was Landesberg’s second of his short career. At one point in the game, UVA had a 20 point run!
Virginia tries to shake this one off when they return to action Saturday against Wake Forest in Winston, NC. Go Hoos!
