Former UVA coach Al Groh heads to GA Tech as defensive coordinator

A Twitter comment from NBC29 this morning links to the recent announcement that former UVA football head coach Al Groh will reportedly head to Georgia Tech next season to work as the Yellow Jackets’ defensive coordinator. The announcement comes after reports that Groh interviewed for the same position with the NFL’s Miami Dolphins and was rumored to be a possibility for a spot with the New England Patriots.

This morning, several reports say that Groh confirmed his decision with the Associated Press. As an interesting supplement, Yahoo sports columnist Doug Farrar writes here about Groh’s history with Dolphins coach Bill Parcells.

Last season, Georgia Tech finished with an 11-3 record, compared to UVA’s 3-9. There are no comments at present as to whether UVA’s recent basketball upset against Georgia Tech will make the transition a rocky one.
