When I heard that only two staff members would be retained from Groh’s staff, I knew that Anthony Poindexter would be one of them. Poindexter is the very definition of Virginia football more so than any other player of the modern era. He came back for his senior season, even though he would have been a very high draft pick in the 1998 NFL draft. Poindexter’s UVA career was cut short when he tore all three ligaments in his knee on a freak accident against NC State. Virginia doesn’t owe Poindexter a thing, that is simply not his way, but Virginia football would not be the same without his infectious energy, disarming charm, and the ability to sit in a recruits family room and tell a kids mama that their boy will be ok for four or five years in Charlottesville. Man, I’m glad Coach London brought him back.
As we sift through all the rumors and conflicting reports about who London will get to run his defense and his offense, two names keep recirculating the most: Defense- Jim Reid and Offense- Bill Musgrave. Reid is currently the linebackers coach for the Miami Dolphins, and Musgrave is the quarterbacks coach for the Atlanta Falcons. I know one thing: I’d be tickled pink to have them both! The University has given Coach London 2 million bucks to fill out his staff, and Musgrave already makes about 500 grand in Atlanta, so who knows if we can get him to return to Charlottesville. Go Hoos!
