At the same time that Michael McPadden stood on the steps of the Albemarle County Courthouse officially launching his bid for the Fifth Congressional District seat, Organizing for America held a rally in front of Congressman Tom Perriello’s office to thank him for supporting the health care bill.
McPadden, who is the sixth Republican candidate to announce for the seat, said that he is running because there’s a lack of candidates representing the conservative values of the Commonwealth.
His campaign stresses liberty, sound money and constitutional restraint. One of his biggest concerns now is “the size of government,” he told C-VILLE. “We must reduce the size of government.”
For McPadden, North Garden resident, the health care bill that passed the House is “also a tax bill,” which will reduce opportunities and jobs in the Fifth District.
“Everyone has the right to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness,” he said.
Other candidates for the seat are Ron Ferrin of Campbell County; Feda Kidd Morton of Fluvanna County; Laurence Verga of Albemarle County, and Ken Boyd, a member of the Albemarle County Board of Supervisors and Robert Hurt from Pittsylvania County.
Bradley Rees, once ran as a Republican, but recently announced that in January he will represent the Virginia Conservative Party.
