Happy Monday to you. Today, your post-weekend update will be delivered according to hair color. Do blondes have more fun? Is there a redheaded stranger in your future? Darlin’, just don’t go and cut it. After the video:
- Blonde: In 2007, I missed a chance to interview Taylor Swift when she opened for George Strait at John Paul Jones Arena. In 2008, I was still crying about it. Now, fate has dealt me a golden hand: According to her website, Taylor Swift is headed back to Charlottesville on March 20, 2010, to headline at the John Paul Jones Arena. Any publicists feel like offering the Swift circa 2007 press access?
- Redhead: During a Saturday evening that involved a little table tennis and an excellent home-cooked meal, two albums hit a sweet spot—Eric Bachmann‘s To The Races, and Phosphorescent‘s To Willie. As it happens, Phosphorescent is in town at the Twisted Branch Tea Bazaar tonight. To Willie is a ramblin’ shambles of an album—11 Willie Nelson covers (or 10, considering that Merle Haggard wrote "Reasons to Quit"), many with the sort of approximate group choruses that cohere in a single melody, something that the Oldhams do well. "Can I Sleep In Your Arms" warms as well as the Tea Bazaar’s house darjeeling. (More from Passion of the Weiss.)
- Brunette: The dark-haired dudes in Sons of Bill may outnumber the others, but the crew deserves props for what sounds like a well-received set at Austin City Limits. Listen to live performances of "Far Cry" and "Joey’s Arm" from ACL on the band’s site.
There you have it, people—hair today, gone tomorrow. What’d you hear about over the weekend?
